School

We grew up in the same town, went to the same high school, our families
knew each other for years, and Tom was a good friend with my brother.
I never thought of Tom as anybody other than my brother’s
friend and someone who was ahead of me by two years in our high
school. He and my brother double dated. Tom would often come over
to get my brother and they would go to football practice together.
After high school Tom went away to college, graduated, moved away,
and I never gave him a second thought. Then during the Christmas
season soon after I graduated from college I ran into Tom while
he was home visiting his family. We hadn’t seen each other
for several years. I don’t know what happened-but everything
had changed! We talked and talked and at the end of that evening
Tom said to me, “We’re going to get married, you and
I”. Three months later that is exactly what we did.
